In response, the Sydney branch of Students for Palestine issued a call-out on Facebook to “defend” the camp. Students say they will stay at the University of Sydney for as long as it takes for their demands to be met. KATHMANDU, Nepal — A magnitude 6.4 earthquake shook northwestern Nepal on Friday night, killing at least 37 people and injuring dozens more, according to officials. As rescuers searched the mountainous villages where the earthquake struck, officials cautioned that the death toll was expected to rise, noting that communications were cut off with many of the affected areas. The earthquake killed at least 20 people in Rukum District, where numerous houses collapsed, a police official, Narvaraj Bhattarai, said over the telephone. In neighboring Jajarkot District, 17 people were confirmed dead, according to Harish Chandra Sharma, a government official.

The helicopter was operated by Manang Air, which ferries tourists seeking a view of the country's towering peaks, including Mount Everest, the world's tallest mountain. "We have already dispatched four bodies to Kathmandu in a helicopter and are preparing to send the remaining two soon," Bhattarai told Reuters from the crash site. Nepal's worst air crash in 30 years killed 71 people in January, when a plane went down near the tourist city of Pokhara.
